With the advancement of technology, mankind has no dearth of information these days. But they have to decide what information they want and what they don’t want. A good development, however, is that people are increasingly opening themselves up to good ideas. Similarly, Reiki therapy is also becoming more popular these days. Before we see how it works, let’s take a look at its history.
History
So, before learning what is reiki, let’s briefly look into its history on how and where it was originated. History of reiki is very interesting. Very long ago, a man called Dr. Mikao Usui rediscovered Reiki in early 1800. On Mount kurama which is a holy place for Buddhists, he undertook a penance for 21 days. At the end of 21st day Reiki’s pure vibration entered in him.
Sensei(Master) was not very sure of what exactly had happened and decided to return back. On the way his toe got hurt by a stone. He just touched his hand on toe. For his surprise the bleeding completely stopped. After this he in his lifetime helped many people to heal their ailments and diseases. He also taught this healing method to many students and some of them went on and became masters. Dr. Chujiro Hayashi is one of the main disciples of Sensei.
Being a doctor himself Hayashi incorporated Reiki in his hospital as complementary therapy. Beside that he also taught people in more organized way. Mrs. Hawayo Takata came to Dr. Chujiro Hayashi as a patient and got impressed with Reiki energy. Soon she started learning Reiki from Hayashi. After completing mastership in reiki she introduced this great energy to western countries. Today’s most of the western Reiki has this lineage. She is the one who emphasized the importance of energy exchange in Reiki.
Energy Exchange
Dr. Mikao Usui and Chujiro Hayashi used Reiki energy for providing service to people. But the one who received treatment from them, never understood it’s importance since there was no effort from them. The treatment was available whenever they want. Mrs Takata realised that it will affect people in karmic level. So she started charging high amount in exchange of her treatment. Her contribution to the western Reiki is immense.
What is Reiki?
After all these introduction you might be thinking what is reiki afterall? Here comes the explanation. Reiki is originated from two Japanese words i.e, Rei and Ki which translates to universe and energy. So Reiki is nothing but universal energy. Reiki practitioner becomes the channel of the universal energy while sending energy. Note that here practitioner’s personal energy will not be utilised, but he becomes a medium for universal energy to flow. This process is possible only when you are attuned to Reiki.
What is Reiki Attunement or Initiation?
Reiki Attunement is a process where a Reiki teacher attunes your body to such a frequency to catch the Reiki energy. Then only you will be able to use Reiki energy. To make it even more clear, think of your body as a radio device. To listen to any FM, you should know the frequency of that particular FM radio station and set your device frequency to the same. Only then can you listen to that FM. Similarly when our body is set to the frequency of the universe, we are eligible to utilize the universal energy. This process is done in a Reiki Attunement ceremony.
Who can receive Reiki initiation?
Anyone above 12 years of age can also receive Reiki initiation and practice. Once initiated, it’s important to practice regularly. Then there is no doubt that he will become a good healer.
Ideal Lifestyle of a Reiki Practitioner
After reiki Attunement, it’s adviced to supplement it with some healthy lifestyle. For me, Reiki is not just a healing modality but a lifestyle by itself. Dr. Mikao Usui has provided following 5 principles to follow for every reiki practitioner which makes their vibration high.
Just for today, I will not be angry.
- Just for today, I will not worry.
- Just for today, I will do my work honestly.
- Just for today, I will be grateful.
- Just for today I will be compasionate.
When we incorporate these principles in our daily life, our vibration will automatically increase.
Applications of Reiki
Now that we know what is reiki, how to become a reiki practitioner, now will look into uses of reiki. If reiki is your way of life, you can send reiki irrespective of time and place. Here are some of the uses of Reiki.
Healing physical ailments:
Reiki can miraculously cure some physical ailments. One thing to keep in mind is that Reiki is an complementary therapy here, meaning you can expect better results if it is added to the treatment prescribed by your doctor. Flow of reiki can cure minor ailments too. Knee pain, migraine like diseases can show better results with the the help of reiki. Reiki, when combined with traditional medical system, can heal cancer like diseases too.
Emotional balance:
Mental and emotional balance is possible with Reiki treatment. A Reiki treatment puts a person in a better mood mentally which results in high vibration. Then it will be very easy to achieve what you visualize and make life cheerful. Most importantly, the Reiki receiver becomes blissful as Reiki flows. No matter what our situation is, feelings like happiness and joy lead to our success. Reiki treatment also eases a variety of neurological conditions such as autism and ADHD.
Sending reiki to past and future:
It is possible to send Reiki regardless of time and distance. This can heal your unpleasant past. Or it can be sent to a future event for better outcome. Both of these are also somewhat deep topics and some factors need to be taken into account here. But there is no harm in giving it a try.
The list can be infinite. Just be creative while using reiki. Reiki has answer for all your questions.
Who can receive Reiki treatment?
Anyone and everyone can take it. Those who have faith can take it, those who don’t have faith can also take it. Either way Reiki does its job.
Can Reiki be used on animals and birds?
Yes. And animals and birds respond more quickly to Reiki. Because they are more attuned to nature’s laws than modern humans. So their response speed is also high. Also, if you give Reiki to your pets, they are more likely to love it. Better to send from a distance for your safety if not with pets.
Reiki and newborn babies
Newborn babies and children do not have mental impurities, unnecessary fear, anxiety etc. So it is very easy to work with them. Children thus respond very quickly to this pure universal energy. Giving Reiki to premature babies is a good idea for their overall development. If the mother herself sends Reiki at such a time, the child will receive both the mother’s love and universal love at the same time.
Does Reiki work on everyone?
Yes. All living beings are equal to infront of Reiki. Reiki is ready to shower its blessings on us all. But we should have the will power and ability to receive it. For example, if you are getting Reiki for your health, your body and mind should be pure to a certain extent for that holy energy to flow in you, that is, negative feelings like unwanted thoughts, depression, anxiety, jealousy etc should go away. In case of presence of such negative feelings, Reiki may take a little more time to work. Reiki also works according to karma.
So due to all these reasons, Reiki may not work as per our expectations in all cases. The universe may have different plan for each of us. But nevertheless, Reiki always works for the good of those who receive Reiki energy.
Disadvantages of reiki.
No. There are no disadvantages of reiki. Also no one can harm anyone with Reiki. Reiki does only good to every individual concerned. Universal energy can never do any harm to anyone because for universal energy everyone is equal.
Winding up
As I said earlier there is no restriction to receive Reiki healing and initiation. Incorporating such an easy and powerful healing modality into our daily lives is not a difficult task. Instead, the benefits you get are immense. Let’s use this power for the prosperity of the beings around us and be worthy of that divine grace.
